In the year 2000, an astonishing experiment
demonstrated America’s cultural spirit and complexity.
In neighborhoods across America, local residents and artists worked
together to address concerns through the artistic process. Along
the way, they discovered that arts participation and artists play
a dynamic and relevant role in community life and development. Both
participants and artists grew as a result, and left a legacy of
new artwork - and new ways of thinking - for generations to come.
Artists and Communities: America Creates for the Millennium
documents these adventures, and offer’s the participants’ experiences
for individuals and organizations wanting to create similar opportunities
in their neighborhoods.
